To the soundtrack of the film, Ways to live forever with the invaluable assistance of Cesar Benito. This would be the second time the composer and Gustavo Ron work closely on a feature film. Cesar Benito was in charge of film music and now Mia Sarah will be responsible for making us feel every frame of Ways to live forever with his music that the film will pass a simple history to join us. The music will mourn, laugh, make us feel.

Visual effects

Ways to Live Forever will be a unique film, not only due to the breathtaking story, but also because the film includes scenes with digital animation. The visual effects transport the viewer into the world of Sam MacQueen, protagonist and narrator of the story. The company in charge of bringing this project into being is Miopia Efectos Visuales. These effects will occur in special moments of the film in order to produce more evocative storytelling. In order to get an idea, here is an example of what Miopia is doing in Ways To Life Forever.

Berlin film festival

“Ways to live forever” is now un post-production. The team is beginning to edit each scene of the movie, because we didn’t want to miss an opportunity to show the first clip at the Berlin Film Festival and delight the audience. The video shows how “Ways to live forever” is really coming together. It won’t be long now until we’re able to enjoy the film. Our next stop is the Cannes Film Festival, where the film will have its premiere. We can’t wait!

International Childhood Cancer Day

Today, we are celebrating the “International Childhood Cancer Day”. The whole “Ways to live forever” team would like to show our support in such a special date. The film is about an eleven year old child who suffers from leukemia. He is aware of the fact that he will never be cured and searches the way to live, in a special way, his last moments. It is a right, for a child, to live as a child, and with this film, we want to show and transmit a positive vision of such a difficult moment. It is true that not all children will be able to recover from cancer, but they all have the right to the best quality of life possible, during the whole evolution of the disease.

We want to offer all our support to the families going throught this disease, and hope to give some light to their lives.

Tommy Hair passed away a few days ago. He was shooting a new film in Sri Lanka and suffered a heart attack. Tommy was our sound recordist and one of the nicest guys in the UK film industry. We will miss his sense of humor, his companionship and his magnificent recordings.

The whole cast and crew would like to send his condolences to Tommy’s family.

We’ll remember him always.

Dear friends,

Landing in Madrid yesterday marked an end to the filming of Ways to Live Forever. We had three very intense months in Newcastle, in the curious world of Holts Yard, where we set up our headquarters and built our film set. It was a magical and otherworldly period of time, uniting different cultures under the same roof. We did our best to be as faithful as possible to Sally Nichols’ spirit, so that in the end it will be Sam telling the story.

I want to send a very special hug to all the actors who helped to make this dream a reality: Robbie, Ben, Emilia, Eloise and Phyllida. It was wonderful to watch you become a family. If I had to describe each of you in one word, I would choose “talent” for Robbie, “presence” for Ben, “glances” for Emilia, “spontaneity” for Eloise, and Phyllida… Phyllida is simply “Phyllida”. Greta, ciao bella!!! It’s always a privilege to work by your side. Alex, what a Felix, so special, so great! You know we have a deal, and it will be an honor to carry it out. The great Natalia Tena, I believe Spain will discover you as an actress very soon. Your next movie (as soon as Harry Potter is over) has to be in Madrid. Ella Purnell will be a surprise, because the role of Kaleigh has more screentime in the film than in the book. I also think that Ella and her amazing voice will give us something to talk about in February 2010. We’ll be waiting! I’d also like to send a big kiss to Fiona, Mike, and Dr. Bill, the man whose voice captivated the entire crew from the very first day; José Luis García Pérez, you are amazing!

I also want to send lots of hugs to our team: Miguel P. Gilberte “It’s Miguel”, director of photography, working with you has been a pleasure. Our next film is just around the corner –get the spotmeter ready! To Jason Carlin, “Irishman” and production designer, love your taste for colors, it helped so much the photography. See you in January. Sussannah Buxton, costume designer, you have an incomparable style, and you know I owe you a meal as soon as you come to Madrid. Matt Western, casting director, you were the third to join the project and I hope you stay for many years!!! Tommy Hair, sound, a genius. Gareth Williams, location manager, a gentleman as well as a genius in finding exceptional locations. Charlie, Jon jon jon, Dan, the ad’s, thank you for so many great moments. Maricuch! I have never had a video assistant like you. Jaimie and your ability to operate a camera while imitating Alec Guiness… Jeff and James, fabulous propmasters. Alice, Jo, Becky and Duncan, thank you for making the art department spectaccular. Mike, Dominic, Nick, Dave, that corner at the production office… always playing good music! You’ve all been like family during all these months, and I’ll miss you. I’ll also miss breakfast in the two-story bus, the wind and cold of Newcastle that snuck through two coats and a pair of scarves. I’ll also miss my wonderful Ruth who has a fabulous knack for continuity. Irene, Kerrie, Daniela and Caroline did the final checks as if they were an F1 team, and the “guys”, Noemi and Jon, together with Kevin–what great battles in such a short period of time!… and Nico, even you were not in Newcastle, you played one of the most important parts, Thanks amigo!

A big hug goes to Coastal and their whole team. What serendipity that Martyn and Will met at the Cannes film festival… from there rose the alliance that brought us to Newcastle. Thank you to all the investors who came to see us. Your visit renewed our strength. Thank you to Martyn and Javier for all their effort and ability to fulfil production in such a short period of time. Hugs to Formato, Andrés and Jaime, we’ll see each other a lot in post-production. Juan, Suso and César, prepare yourselves for a lot of editing and scoring! Miopía visual effects, your time is now!!!

Finally, I would like to send a big kiss to Sally Nichols, for all the wonderful ideas that went into her books. Best of luck with the next one.

And to all of those who have been close by and, like us, can’t wait to see the final product… a big hug and Merry Christmas to you all! See you in post-production!!!
