First week on location!

Monday, November 30th, 2009

First week outdoors. We started the week at  the Metro Centre, one of the largest shopping centres in Europe.  Try filming in a busy shopping mall! Location shooting is a major operation with the deployment of crew, cameras, sound… It means early morning starts not to mention the rain, the wind… But things can change when you least expect it. Have a look…

Haircuts

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Asion is a Spanish charity which consists of a group of parents who know the experience of having a child with cancer. Since 1989 they have been working to improve the quality of life for those children and their families.

This video introduces Asion. Needless to say, they have followed with interest “Ways to Live Forever” since its beginning. The video has no dialogue, and it does not need any commentary…

When Gustavo met Sally

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Sally Nicholls, the author of “Ways to Live Forever”, has visited the set this week to see how her novel is becoming a film! The young writer, acommpanied by her boyfriend, met the cast and crew and seemed very excited as they watched Robbie and Elloise playing the characters she has created in her novel. She said they were all very good, but also, more “good looking” than she would ever have imagined!

Sally was surprised by the way Sam´s house looks, and she particularly loved his bedroom. She stayed for a whole day with us and she even learnt a bit of Spanish! Here you have her greetings from Newcastle.

‘Another’ family

Monday, November 16th, 2009

The “Sylvanian Family” are some friendly little beings that you can find hidden in any corner of Sam´s house… In a fruit bowl, in the fridge, up the chimney… They surprise you every day in places you would never expect to find them! Could it be that these toys come to life when we are sleeping, as it happened in Toy Story to Woody? Or maybe there is something more to this than we realised? Perhaps Eloise knows more that she is telling us…

Tommy

This is Tommy Hair, our Sound Mixer. Under the Tuscan sun of Newcastle, Tommy always looks for an apple tree to take shelter and to set out there his particular mixing universe. The truth is that every profession comes out for a reason. For Tommy, it started off very early

This is the real Tommy from the 80s. Tommy Hair, ‘Dub Warriors’ punk band´s bass player (1985). A musical legend, who left more than a fan faint! Just judge by yourselves…

Birthday on set!

Wednesday, November 11th, 2009

Ways to Live Forever was celebrating yesterday! It was Robbie Kay´s mother’s birthday. Robbie presented Stephanie with a birthday cake plus a signed card from all the crew and cast. Needless to say, it was a very pleasant surprise for her. Both her husband and mother were also able to make the celebration. We all enjoyed very much joining in the singing of ‘Happy Birthday’!

“Car industry” by Ben Chaplin

Tuesday, November 10th, 2009

Already in the second week of shooting! Average temperature here is 5 C. On the set, to keep warm, you have to stay close to the spotlights and heaters. The good news is we start the day off with a proper ‘English breakfast’: bacon, sausages, eggs and toast. Let´s enjoy!

Everyone says that the beginning is the toughest bit. Nevertheless, the first week has gone really smoothly. However, if you don´t believe me, look at Ben Chaplin reminising about his first steps in the advertising world! A good tip about the car industry… and in Spanish!
