A familiar face returns to competitive Dota 2 as Anathan ‘ana‘ Pham has now been confirmed to be returning to the OG Dota 2 lineup.
OG made the return of the 19-year-old professional Dota 2 player official via Twitter.
ana has been in and out of OG for the past two years. He initially joined OG as a neophyte in the scene back in 2016. He then quickly proved his place within the then-two-time Major winners. In less than a year, he would play a key role in helping OG two more Major titles. Unfortunately, following a Top 8 finish at The International 2017, ana would decide to step awayy from competitive Dota 2. He would return nearly a year later, just months before The International 2018 to complete the OG Dota 2 lineup with
In any case, now that ana is finally back on the OG Dota 2 lineup, fans of the team can now rejoice. ana was arguably the main driving force for OG’s miraculous title run at The International 2018. Although he’ll likely have to shake off some rust after not having competed for months this year, there’s little doubt that ana will make a profound impact in his return to the defending TI champions.
It feels weird to ask if a TI champion are elite or not, but such is the reality for OG.
Coming out of nowhere to win The International 2018, OG have since mellowed down. After taking a break to start the season, OG went through multiple roster changes with ana taking a break once again and forcing OG to look for a suitable player to take his place. To that end, OG tried their best to find a replacement, first picking up before going with Igor ‘iLTW‘ Filatov.
For some reason, however, neither of those two really felt like a good fit for OG.
OG are a team that plays at their absolute best when they have a hard carry that they can rely on to find farm regardless of circumstances while Topson and do crazy things all over the map to create space. In iLTW’s case, the 19-year-old Russian professional Dota 2 player was just too aggressive for OG’s taste, which forced Topson to play safely, which is not exactly one of his strong suits.
The return of ana should fix most of OG’s problems as they prepare for the stretch run.
Fans will get a chance to see the reunited OG Dota 2 lineup in action in the European regional qualifiers for the MDL Disneyland? Paris Major in late March or early April.
